5 Ways to Shift From Scarcity to Flow

For much of my life, I’ve unknowingly operated from a place of scarcity. Whether it was worrying about money, time, or energy, I’d catch myself clinging tightly to what I had, fearful that it wasn’t enough. But something shifted recently. I’ve begun to realize that abundance isn’t about what you possess; it’s about your mindset, your openness, and your willingness to let life flow.

And so, I’m tuning my "radio" to a new frequency—one where everything is possible, and scarcity fades into the background. The truth is, we have everything we need already inside our selves. The thing you want most - when you crave it the most, long for it the most, the deeper the craving, the deeper the longing, the further away it is. From Cathy Heller: “When there is a feeling of lack and the absence of what is, that absence is what you create. But when there is wholeness you can create that too. The more you feel the feelings of deep gratitude, of awe, of wonder, the more you can’t help but bump into this amazing reality all the time.”

Here’s how I’m making the shift into radical abundance, step by step.

1. Learning the Scarcity/Abundance Paradox

One of the most surprising realizations on my journey was how often I thought I was living in abundance, but I was actually acting from a place of lack. For instance, I used to buy things impulsively—clothes, gadgets, decor —believing these purchases would prove that I have abundance. But when I examined these actions more closely, I noticed they stemmed from a belief that I wasn’t enough as I was.

This is the scarcity/abundance paradox: sometimes what feels like abundance is really scarcity in disguise. True abundance doesn’t come from accumulating more; it comes from feeling whole and aligned with your values.

To identify whether something is coming from lack or abundance, I’ve started asking myself questions like:

  • Am I doing this to fill a void, or because it truly brings me joy?

  • Does this align with my long-term vision, or is it a quick fix?

  • Am I trusting that what I have is enough, or am I acting out of fear?

These questions have helped me pause and choose actions that come from a place of authenticity and alignment. Letting go of unnecessary purchases or commitments has been liberating—creating space for what truly matters.

2. Reconnecting With My Roots

During a recent retreat, I played in nature every day. This reminded me that abundance is all around us—in the earth’s cycles, in the way plants grow and renew, and in the infinite energy we can access when we’re aligned with our purpose. These reflections brought me back to the basics of gratitude, grounding, and trust.

In Costa Rica, I was inspired by the lush environment and the simplicity of tuning into what nourishes the soul. I promised myself I’d bring this energy home. Even without the beautiful surroundings, I’m finding abundance in my daily life by focusing on what I do have: a thriving daughter, a loving husband, the spark of new ideas, and the opportunity to create something meaningful.

3. Shifting My Thoughts and Actions

Abundance doesn’t mean “more.” It means aligning your spending with what you truly value. For example, you might decide that hosting friends at home (an abundant experience) brings more joy than buying a new piece of decor. Ask yourself: What am I really seeking? Is it the item itself, or the feeling it represents (e.g., security, status, joy)? Balancing scarcity and abundance is a dance, not a destination. The goal is to recognize when scarcity thinking is driving decisions and consciously choose abundance—not through spending, but through intentional, value-driven living.

  • Transform Scarcity into Gratitude

    • Scarcity thrives on “not enough.” Combat this with gratitude practices:

      • Each night, list three things you’re thankful for (e.g., your home, health, time with family).

      • When tempted to buy, ask: What do I already have that serves this purpose?

      • Focus on progress, not perfection, with money and goals.

  • Practice Delayed Gratification Without Deprivation

    • Create space between “want” and “buy.” Use a “48-hour rule” to see if you still want the item.

    • Shift the story: Instead of “I can’t afford this,” say “I’m choosing to wait because I have bigger goals.”

    • Example:

      • I want the new iPad.

        • Scarcity Thought "If I don’t get it now, I’ll miss out."

        • Reframed for Abundance: "If it’s valuable, I can save for it intentionally."

4. Cultivating a Vision of Abundance

One of the most transformative shifts has been giving myself permission to dream big. I’m no longer just thinking about survival or meeting immediate needs—I’m envisioning a life that feels expansive, fulfilling, and joyful. My vision includes:

  • A thriving community of women who gather for rituals, yoga, and shared support.

  • A garden that nourishes both my family and my creativity.

  • A yoga and wellness business that not only sustains my family financially but allows me to serve others from a place of authenticity.

  • Travel and experiences that enrich our lives and expand our perspectives.

This vision keeps me aligned when doubt or fear creep in. It’s my north star, reminding me that abundance isn’t just a dream—it’s a choice I make every day.

5. Embracing the Flow

The more I lean into abundance, the more I’m noticing how life responds in kind. Opportunities I couldn’t have predicted are beginning to surface. My relationships feel lighter and more supportive. I’m finding joy in small moments and trust in the bigger picture.

Abundance isn’t about never facing challenges. It’s about knowing that even when things feel uncertain, there’s enough—enough time, enough love, enough energy, enough of me. It’s about showing up, trusting the process, and celebrating the journey.

Tuning into abundance isn’t something I’ve mastered, but it’s a practice that’s changing my life. Each day, I’m learning to open my hands, my heart, and my mind to the infinite possibilities around me. By shifting from scarcity to flow, I’m not only creating a life I love—I’m becoming the person I’ve always wanted to be.
